The JUGS Lite-Flite Pitching Machine throws curveballs, sliders and fastballs for baseball and softball using lightweight Lite-Flite balls, so hitters can learn to handle breaking pitches without the fear of being hit. It is built for youth leagues, high schools, colleges and hitting facilities, and just as much for the backyard hitter who wants real movement to swing at. At 35 pounds and with simulated speeds up to 85 mph from 25 feet, it brings game-style pitching into a garage, gym or batting cage.
A quick-change design switches the machine between baseball and softball in seconds, with no tools, and it runs on standard 110-volt power or an optional rechargeable battery pack for fields without an outlet.
Learn to Hit the Breaking Pitch
Most hitters can time a straight fastball long before they can recognize and stay back on a curve. The usual way to learn breaking pitches is to face a pitcher who throws them, which means waiting until a player is old enough to see them in games, and accepting that a few will get away and hit someone. The Lite-Flite machine removes both problems.
The machine throws five pitches for both baseball and softball:
- Left-handed curves
- Left-handed sliders
- Fastballs
- Right-handed sliders
- Right-handed curves
Because it throws soft, lightweight Lite-Flite balls instead of hard balls, a hitter can stand in against a pitch that breaks toward them and learn to stay in the box. That builds the confidence to let a curve start at the body and break back over the plate, and the discipline to lay off one that starts in the zone and breaks out of it. Working both left- and right-handed movement also gives hitters reps against the handedness they see least often.
Pitch Selection Knob and Switch-and-Play Knobs
The pitch selection knob gives you a whole range of movement to dial in right- and left-handed fastballs, curves and sliders. Switching from one pitch to the next is a matter of turning the knob, so a coach can move from a straight fastball to a breaking ball within the same round and make hitters react.
Converting between sports is just as quick. The Switch-and-Play Knobs take the machine from a baseball setup to a softball setup in seconds, with no tools required. For a hitting facility or a family with players in both sports, one machine covers baseball and softball without a second purchase or a long changeover between sessions.
Always-See-The-Ball Delivery
One of the harder parts of hitting off any machine is picking up the ball. With many machines the ball appears suddenly out of a wheel housing, which is nothing like tracking a pitcher’s hand. The Lite-Flite machine uses an Always-See-The-Ball delivery system: a black hitter’s eye ball chute that gives the hitter an unobstructed view of the ball from the machine all the way into the hitting zone.
Seeing the ball earlier gives hitters the time to read spin and movement, which is the whole point of practicing against breaking pitches. It also makes the timing of each pitch easier to learn, so sessions spend less time on missed pitches and more on productive swings.
Swivel Base for Fly Balls, Pop-Ups and Ground Balls
The Lite-Flite is not only a hitting machine. Its swivel-design base casting provides 360-degree movement, so you can aim the machine up for fly balls and pop-ups or down for ground balls. Infielders can work on fielding grounders to either side, outfielders can track fly balls and catchers can work on pop-ups, all with soft balls that are forgiving while a player is still learning to judge them.
That makes the machine useful for whole-team practice. A coach can run a hitting station and then swing the machine around for a defensive station without changing equipment.
Compatible Balls
The Lite-Flite Pitching Machine is made to throw:
- JUGS Lite-Flite Baseballs
- 11-inch and 12-inch Lite-Flite Softballs
- JUGS Multi-Use Practice Baseballs and Softballs
- JUGS Bulldog poly baseballs and softballs
Lite-Flite balls are the core of the system. They are soft and lightweight so hitters do not get stung if a pitch gets in on them, they hold their shape coming out of the machine, and they are safe enough to use indoors. The Multi-Use Practice Baseball is a 9-inch, 3.5-ounce ball designed for more advanced batting practice. If you plan to hit regularly, a bucket of Lite-Flite balls keeps more balls in rotation and cuts down on trips to collect them.
Stick to these lightweight ball types. The machine is built specifically around them, and using one type per session keeps pitch movement consistent.
Portable Power: Plug In or Run on the Battery Pack
This 35-pound machine uses a 1/8-horsepower, 1.3-amp motor for consistent power. It runs on regular 110-volt household power, indoors or outdoors. For a field with no outlet, the optional JUGS Pitching Machine Rechargeable Battery Pack, sold separately, runs the Lite-Flite machine for up to 3 hours of continuous use.
The light weight matters as much as the power options. One person can carry the machine, set it up and pack it away, so it is realistic to bring it to every practice rather than leaving it at the facility.
Who the JUGS Lite-Flite Machine Is For
- Youth baseball and softball players who are ready to start seeing curves and sliders but are not yet comfortable standing in against breaking pitches.
- High school and college hitters who want extra pitch-recognition work against left- and right-handed movement.
- Hitting facilities and lesson instructors who need one machine that serves baseball and softball clients.
- Families with players in both sports who want a single machine for the garage or backyard.
- Coaches who want one portable machine for a hitting station and a fielding station.
Training Applications
- Pitch recognition rounds. Mix fastballs and breaking pitches by changing the pitch selection knob between pitches, and have the hitter call the pitch before swinging.
- Stay-in drills. Use the breaking pitch that starts at the hitter and breaks over the plate, so younger players learn not to bail out.
- Opposite-handed reps. Spend a round on the pitch type a hitter sees least, such as a left-handed curve for a left-handed hitter.
- Indoor winter work. Soft balls make garage or gym sessions practical when fields are unavailable.
- Defensive stations. Swivel the base for ground balls to infielders, then fly balls and pop-ups to outfielders and catchers.
Getting Started
- Set the machine to baseball or softball with the Switch-and-Play Knobs.
- Place it 25 feet from the plate for realistic simulated speed, on a flat surface.
- Plug into a 110-volt outlet or the optional battery pack.
- Start with fastballs until the hitter is tracking the ball out of the black chute.
- Introduce breaking pitches with the pitch selection knob, one type at a time, before mixing them.
A Breaking-Ball Progression for Younger Hitters
Breaking pitches can be discouraging at first, so it helps to build up to them in stages. A simple progression over several sessions:
- Fastballs only. Let the hitter get comfortable picking the ball up out of the black chute and squaring it up.
- One breaking pitch, announced. Switch to the curve that breaks away from the hitter and tell them it is coming, so they learn what the movement looks like.
- The pitch that breaks in. Move to the curve or slider that starts at the hitter and breaks over the plate. This is the stay-in-the-box rep, and the soft ball makes it far less intimidating.
- Unannounced mix. Alternate fastballs and breaking pitches without telling the hitter, and ask them to call the pitch as they swing or take.
- Count situations. Play out counts, such as two strikes, where the hitter has to protect the plate against both pitch types.
Moving through these stages over a few weeks builds pitch recognition steadily without turning practice into a string of frustrating misses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Lite-Flite machine throw real baseballs or softballs?
It is made specifically to throw lightweight balls: Lite-Flite baseballs and softballs, JUGS Multi-Use Practice Baseballs and Softballs, and JUGS Bulldog polyballs. If you need a machine that throws regulation baseballs and softballs, the JUGS MVP Combo handles both.
How fast does it throw?
It simulates speeds up to 85 mph when set 25 feet from the hitter. The lighter ball and shorter distance give hitters the reaction time of a much faster pitch.
What pitches does it throw?
Fastballs plus left- and right-handed curves and sliders, for both baseball and softball. You select the pitch with the pitch selection knob.
How long does it take to switch from baseball to softball?
Seconds. The Switch-and-Play Knobs change the setup without tools.
Can I use it without an outlet?
Yes, with the optional JUGS rechargeable battery pack, sold separately, which runs the Lite-Flite machine for up to 3 hours of continuous use.
Is it safe to use indoors?
Yes. The machine can be used indoors or outdoors, and Lite-Flite balls are soft, lightweight and safe for indoor hitting. Give the hitter enough room for a full swing, keep bystanders clear and protect anything breakable behind the hitter.
